Why take the time to visit this blog every day and read it? I used to only read blogs when I had a few extra minutes, until I discovered the simplicity of blog reading through RSS and Google Reader.
Now, I can read several blog updates in just a few seconds and I love it.
What is RSS?
Wikipedia defines it as a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format.
Simply stated, it makes reading several blogs at once very easy, but letting you read them all at one place in something like Google Reader.
What is Google Reader?
Simply stated, it’s a tool we use to quickly read blogs in one place, so we don’t have to go to each individual blog site. We can easily point Reader to several blogs we follow and it alerts us (much like email does) when we have unread blog entries. It’s wonderful!
How do I set it up?
The easiest way to start using it is to click on the RSS button on this blog (or in your URL window).
Your browser will then open a window asking you how you want to keep up to date with this site. Choose Add to Google Reader.
Then simply sign in with your Google Account and password, or Create A New Account.
Then, if you are using gmail, you are a step ahead already. At the top of your GMAIL window, you’ll see something called READER. That will open a new window which looks a lot like your gmail window. If you have it open in a tab, it will even put the number of new unread posts in the tab title so you can quickly see if you have anything new to read!
