Must-Have Gifts for a Two Year Old (that Grandparents love to give!)

two year old gifts that grandparents love to give

A two year old is curious, loves to get into a mess, loves to do anything older children are doing and is always testing boundaries. Keeping them focused (and sometimes contained) can be helpful. We’re currently raising our third two year old, and along the way we’ve found some amazing gifts ideas that we wish we would have had for our first!

  1. Melissa & Doug Water Wow
These are amazing!!! And they cost only $3-5. They are perfect to use in the car, or waiting at a doctor’s office, in church, or at a family get-together where there might not otherwise be any toys. They saved our life in the airport last year, when we had an unexpected several hour layover with three kids four and younger.Yikes!! Our kids have reused these many times, and they are still working great. You can buy them on Amazon, or they are also available in many retail stores including Walmart, Kohl’s, and even some Christian bookstores.

  2. Crayola Color Wonder markers and coloring pages
Let’s face it, every two year old wants to color with markers, but they usually get it all over them if they do. As a parent or grandparent, you might not always be able to be 100% supervising them when they use them (especially if you need to be doing something else). The Color Wonders use invisible ink that only works on their special coloring pages, so there is no mess!

We also found these to be great at family get-togethers because it doesn’t matter if children are careless with them, or if a younger child wants to use them too.

  3. A two-year old is growing rapidly in speech, every day using new words. Their minds are active and they love to memorize. You might not realize it right away, but if you sing the same song with them everyday at breakfast for a week, you’ll soon hear them singing parts of the song. The same with nursery rhymes. Both our son and our daughter absolutely loved this Truckery Nursery Rhymes book. The book takes ordinary nursery rhymes like Humpty Dumpty, Hickory Dickory Dock, and The Wheels on the Bus and changes the words so every rhyme involves trucks. The favorites in our house were Eenie Meenie Miney Mo, Swing Around with Rosie, and Pop Blows the Diesel.truckery nursery rhymes gift book for a two year old

I hope you found these ideas helpful – I know we have! I’d love to know some of your favorite and intentional gifts for a two year old. Feel free to share in the comments or on facebook.
