Tips for Saving Money at Best Buy

This post originally appeared on the Dealspotr blog about saving money at Best Buy. Dealspotr is the most accurate coupon site that pays you to save. I’m @frugallancaster on Dealspotr, use my link to join today and earn 5,000 bonus points.

When it comes to purchasing new technology, many people turn to electronics powerhouse Best Buy. With over 1,000 locations across North America, its vast selection of goods and Geek Squad services have attracted customers for over 50 years.

Electronics are among the most expensive products on the market today, and shoppers are constantly looking for deals on everything from video drones to headphones. We asked our Dealspotr community – including pro coupon bloggers – their hacks for saving money at Best Buy. Here’s what they said:

Use the Best Buy Price Match Guarantee

This winning tip is by Paul Kappel, from Chicago, IL. Do some shopping around online and in other stores before heading to Best Buy. They’ll match any price on most product with their Price Match Guarantee.

The number 1 hack for Best Buy is that Best Buy will actually price match most other retailers, including Amazon.com! In the past, people would always go to Best Buy and look at items, then buy them on Amazon, but now with price match, you can look at them, and then buy them on site.
It’s a great way to get your TV same day, way faster than Prime!

Take a look at the policy here.

Sign up for College Student Deals

If you’re a student, you really luck out when it comes to Best Buy deals, according to Diane Schmidt of Savings Mania. Just sign up for their deal email blast and get exclusive deals just for students!

College students can receive special discounts just by signing up for their college registry. Find out more here.

Create a wedding registry for big ticket items

One Frugal Girl has a secret for newly engaged couples to enjoy! If you create a wedding registry at Best Buy, your friends and family can all pitch in smaller amounts of money on bigger items like TVs and refrigerators.

Did you know you can create a wedding registry at Best Buy? Believe it or not you can register for electronics and large appliances. Do you need a new refrigerator or stove more than dishes and bed linens, then skip registries at typical department stores and opt for a Best Buy registry instead!

Choose an appliance or high priced television and your guests can contribute any amount they’d like to the overall cost using a group gifting option. That means many guests can pitch in to help buy something you really want or need.

Best of all Best Buy offers a 10 percent discount so the registered couple can buy anything remaining on their registry! Match that with a sale and you’ll save a ton of money!

Check the Best Buy Outlet

If you don’t care about getting a mint-condition product or receiving a new product with an open box, Alanda of Cocoa Mommy says to be sure to check out the Best Buy Outlet. You can shop gently used items, or new products with packaging defects that are sold at a discounted price.

Best Buy offers “open box deals,” products that were opened by customers, display models or opened for inspection due to damaged packaging. Best Buy tests and inspects to make sure they meet fit and function specifications. These products are significantly discounted and covered by same warranty as other products.

Buy a gift card with a gift card

If you’re not into anything that Best Buy offers on the technology side, you can always buy a gift card to a different store or restaurant. Vicki Floyd from Coupondipity puts it poetically in her tip:

So you got a Best Buy gift card, but you’re just not a techie. You’re not into the latest stereo system, your iPhone is older than your child, and computers make you want to run away screaming. So what to buy?

Use your gift card to buy a gift card! Best Buy stores have kiosks where they stock gift cards for all different kinds of things: restaurants, iTunes, Google Play, movies and more. So if you’d rather have a snack than a stereo, an appetizer rather than an appliance, a craft beer rather than a computer… choose a gift card with your gift card!

Review past purchases to earn rewards

If you’ve recently made a purchase from Best Buy and didn’t use one of these amazing savings hacks, don’t worry! Thanks to Ellen LaFleche-Christian of Confessions of an Over-worked Mom, there’s still a way to save on future purchases by reviewing what you’ve recently bought.

My best tip for Best Buy is to make sure that you review all of the items that you purchase from them. When you review purchases, you get points. 250 points = $5 reward certificate. Reward certificates are coupons for discounts off future purchases.

You can read more Best Buy savings tips on this forum thread. We’d like to congratulate Paul Kappel for winning a $25 Best Buy gift card for sharing the most helpful and original savings tip! Check out this week’s contest for Dollar Tree and enter to win a $25 gift card here.
