5 Cool Things about Banking with BB&T {FREE $50 Reward for New Checking Account}

As a child, I started banking with Blue Ball Bank. If you’ve heard of them, you know they were bought by Community, and Susquehanna and is now BB&T. About a year ago, when Susquehanna announced it was going to be BB&T, I almost switched banks. I’ll just be honest. The only reason I stayed at the time was because I didn’t have a major reason to change and I thought that their online banking and cell phone app looked pretty neat.

While some of their service has changed since the buyout (I mostly hear complaints from businesses or non-profits who aren’t preferring working with BB&T anymore), overall I am very pleased with my banking experience at BB&T. I do most of my banking online and I find it very handy to be able to deposit checks using the U by BB&T App.

Here are 5 cool things that I like about banking with BB&T (I save the best for last!).

1. Cash Back Bonuses through BB&T Deals

BB&T is pretty unique in the fact that they offer special cash back bonuses for local restaurants and entertainment. Basically if you use your debit card at places like Five Guys, Sheetz, Olive Garden or Starbucks (they change every month), you can earn cash back on your purchase. You can find them under your BB&T Deals tab online or on your app.

And the BB&T Deals aren’t only for retail purchases—they occasionally offer rewards for setting up bill pay or direct depositing your paycheck. We’ve earned $5 cash back simply for setting up a one-time online bill payment for a credit card!

2. Online Banking is simple

I despise needing to call technical support, especially if its a bank. And definintely if its something that I could get done on my own. Which is why I love the online banking option—whether I’m transferring money between accounts, sending money to a friend, checking account balances, using their budgeting and money tracking tools, or opening a new account—there is little I can’t do online.

It also allows you to set up a budget, establish goals and analyze spending habits based on your own spending history or compared to other BB&T clients. You can even monitor your credit score for free and setup an appointment with your banker online, without even making a phone call. It is also easy to pay people just using their phone number or email address—something I didn’t know you could even do until recently!

3. The U by BB&T App lets me deposit checks at home!

As a BB&T customer, you get access to U by BB&T, the next generation of mobile and online banking. U gives you enhanced tools and features that help you see the big picture when it comes to your finances and plan for what’s next.

I absolutely love saving time and checking another errand off my list without leaving home! Their app makes it so simple to deposit checks, check your account balances, view special cash back offers at local businesses and even do things like check your budget or transfer money between accounts.

4. There are many locations in Lancaster County.

If there is something I can’t do on the app or online, I don’t have a problem finding a location nearby where I can talk to an actual person (and get my kids a free lollipop). You can find all their Lancaster locations on this map, but here you can see just 10 of their locations.

5. You can earn up to $250 for referring friends to BB&T.

When you refer a friend or family member to open a BB&T personal checking account online or in a BB&T branch, you’ll both receive $50! You can earn up to $250 when you refer more friends.

If you are not currently a BB&T customer, you can open an account in less than 10 minutes and earn your reward.

  • Open an Account
  • Meet all qualifiers for the incentive.
  • Your $50 cash will arrive within 120 days!

The fine print qualifiers basically just say that the new personal checking account must be your first checking account at BB&T. MoneyAccounts, savings accounts, and business checking accounts are not eligible.

If you are already a BB&T customer, it’s just 3 easy steps to get your reward:

  • Request your friend code here.
  • BB&T will email you a link with your friend code to share with your friends.
  • Forward the link and friend code to your friends.
  • BB&T will deposit $50 into each of your accounts once all qualifiers for the incentive are met.

Each BB&T customer can refer up to 5 friends and earn up to $250! Who doesn’t love earning extra cash for so little effort?!
