How I Got My Husband to Pick Up His Socks

My husband is not only an engineer, but an engineer who loves efficiency and utilizing the newest technology. He had been begging to get one of those robotic vacuums. I resisted for the longest time.

I was worried about it being this useless gadget we’d have lying around the house. I didn’t want to spend the money for something I thought we’d never use. It would just be a toy to play with for a little.

I thought it would be ‘weird’ to have a robot roaming our house. I suppose I was self-conscious, even though apparently it didn’t occur to me we could hide it whenever guests came over.

I’m really not entirely sure why else I resisted. For whatever reason, I just didn’t want it.

My husband however, has this crazy knack at finding FREE things. One day, he found a way to get a robotic vacuum for FREE. How could I say no? His dream was coming true! I gave in. He ordered it . . and then came the day it arrived on our doorstep!

Folks, I had no idea what I was saying no to. Literally no idea!

Like every other technology gadget that arrives at our home, the box was opened immediately. Excitement was in the air and before you knew it, the robot was charging and getting ready to discover its new home!

As soon as the kids were in bed, you can guess where my husband was. Yep, that robot was turned on and running! I will admit, it was pretty entertaining to watch as it learned its way around the rooms and furniture.

The first night it always runs the longest as it learns the room—where furniture and walls are, as well as the areas with the most dirt. We went to bed and let it keep working, later finding out it ran until 2am in the morning before returning to its home base!

The next evening was even more entertaining to watch this little robotic vacuum do its thing. The robot suddenly knew where furniture was. Instead of bumping into a table leg, it turned just before it touched the leg. The robot also knew the areas with the most dirt, and went straight to those areas first. That night, it was finished by 11pm.

The best part about this robotic vacuum though, I have yet to mention. For the wives reading this post, you are going to LOVE this part. It is why I think every wife needs to get one of these robotic vacuums as a gift for her husband. (But secretly, its really a gift for you!)

Get ready. . . you are going to love this!

The first night my husband set up the robotic vacuum, he was so excited to see it work, he ran around the house picking up everything. Things that normally would have been left out (i.e. socks, shoes, papers, even toys) were all picked up. I didn’t have to do a bit of clean up!

I thought it was a fluke. Oh, he’ll just do it one night while the excitement is still on.

Nope! Not true. The next night, everything was picked up again. And the next night. And the next night…. and it wasn’t long until the kids caught on and did the same thing too. I couldn’t believe it! My life had been changed—by a robotic vacuum!

So there’s my story. How I went from being completely resistant of something to being captivated by it! Now it’s our little pet, it even has a name. Did I just admit that?! Oh well—at least I’ve learned to be careful of what I oppose. You never know when it might be God’s way of getting you what you really wanted in the place you would have least expected it.

We have the ILIFE A4 Robot Vacuum Cleaner. It’s incredibly quiet, its easy to empty, it automatically docks and charges by itself, it adjusts to multiple floor types and it senses edges to stairs and furniture. If you’d like to learn more you can watch this short video about its 3-step cleaning system and features.

Just a personal note: One thing that also held me back was the price tag. I figured they were pretty pricey and I didn’t want to spend money unnecessarily. However, I have noticed these robotic vacuums drastically dropping in price the past few months. They are becoming quite popular and therefore quite a bit more affordable.

The ILIFE is selling for about $199 currently, but has a sister model for just $159. Those are the best prices I’ve found, although I did find a Groupon deal for a $199 pet model too.

Do you have a robotic vacuum? Maybe you have a similar story to share. I’d love to hear your experience in the comments below!

This is NOT a sponsored post. Everything in this article is my honest opinion and our true experience. I was not paid to say any of it. It’s our honest testimony of the technology and the product and how it has affected our lives.
