The ball drop on New Year’s Eve is pretty well-known, but did you know about these fifteen odd things dropping on New Year’s Eve in and around Lancaster County? Would you be surprised if I told you there is a perogi drop or a pickle drop or a peep drop?

1. Red Rose Drop – Lancaster City

Ring in the new year with New Year’s Eve in Downtown Lancaster City! N.Y.E. in Lancaster City features a live concert, the lowering of Lancaster’s Red Rose, and a fireworks finale at midnight! Join the fun in Binns Park, 120 N. Queen St., to celebrate the new year! Event is FREE and open to the public.

2. Shoe Drop – Akron

The Shoe-In will go from 9 p.m. until 12:15 a.m. at Akron’s Broad Street Park. This is a FREE all-ages event featuring FREE food, a DJ spinning tunes, a bonfire, and hayrides from 9 to 11:30 p.m. The traditional giant lighted shoe will usher in the New Year as it drops from its stand and touches the ground at the stroke of midnight.

3. Mushroom Drop – Kennett Square

This is a FREE event. Young children and their parents are invited to kick off our NYE celebration at 7:30 pm. “Raising” our lighted Mushroom will take place at 8:45 pm.  Why not bring a senior along who would not usually celebrate NYE?

The Garage Community & Youth Center at 115 S Union Street will be our venue for an indoor event.  Doors open at 8:00 pm.  It might just be the place to get warm. The Funsters  will be back on stage to liven up the crowd from 9 pm ’til 12:30 am on S Union Street just outside The Garage.

4. Strawberry Drop – Harrisburg

Celebrate the New Year in Downtown Harrisburg with a strawberry drop, fireworks, Countdown to Kid-Night and more! Activities will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2019 from 9pm-12am at the City Government Center and the portion of Second Street directly in front of it. Check their website to see a full schedule of events.

5. Pickle Drop – Dillsburg

Activities for all ages from 4:30-10:30 PM. Children’s Games benefit New Hope Ministries; Pickle Parlor provides face, hair & fingernail painting. Feast on the Dillsburg Senior Center’s Famous Pickle Soup and other food that will be provided for purchase.

At 7pm the Pickle’s baby gherkin, “Lil’ Dill,” will conduct her drop, in conjunction with Ireland’s midnight. This celebration honors Dillsburg’s Irish founders while providing family fun for those who strive to be in bed before midnight!

PICKLE DROP at Midnight on East Hanover Street, followed by Fireworks.

6. Peep Drop – Bethlehem

Family fun is the name of the game at PEEPSFEST®, the annual two-day New Year’s Eve festival celebrating the fun and excitement of the PEEPS® Brand at the iconic SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA. Each year, fans arrive from all over the country to enjoy family-friendly activities and marvel at the PEEPS® Chick Drop – a 4-feet, 9-inches tall, 400-pound lit PEEPS® Chick that descends at 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 31 to commemorate the beginning of an exciting new year.

Family entertainment including:

  • kid friendly bands
  • magicians
  • the Family Disco Lounge
  • kids fun run
  • and more

14. Wrench Drop – Mechanicsburg

The result of an Eagle Scout project by Mechanicsburg Area School District graduate Sheldon Rodgers, this small town west of Harrisburg dropped its first wrench on New Year’s Eve in 2003. The galvanized steel wrench commemorates the borough’s founders — mechanics who settled in the area to make and repair wagons that were traveling west after crossing the Susquehanna River in the early 19th century. The town celebrates the New Year from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with the annual drop of a wrench in front of the Washington Fire Company at 53 E. Main St.
