Frugal Photo Friday: Baby Food, Buttons and Bubble Snakes

This October I will be participating in the Frugal Photo Friday challenge with MoneySavingMom.com and Simply Rebekah. I will be sharing simple photos that demonstrate ways to save money.

It is time to start celebrating simple savings!

This week’s topic is Food & Fun. For some reason, we love to save money on food! I have too many things to share, but here are just a few.

We make our own baby food and freeze it in ice cube trays – fresh zucchini and blueberries, yum!

We love to make our own strombolli, and we’ve even tried spaghetti strombolli (recipe coming soon)! Strombolli’s are quick, easy and much cheaper than buying at a pizza shop. We filled this strombolli with frozen onions and peppers FREE from our garden, discounted ham that was frozen, and some really cheap ragu pasta sauce bought on sale with coupons!

We also love to do fun things with free things we can find around the home like sticking buttons to a piece of tape . . .

. . . . and our new favorite, making bubble snakes from a water bottle.

This year we were excited to try something new. We entered various photos, plants and canned goods in the local fair and then used our winnings to pay for our fair food and rides. Now that was FUN! 🙂

Next week we get to share photos of ways we save on home & decor! Stay tuned . . .

WHAT!?!?! Using your fair winnings for food and rides is GENIUS! I love it!!!!! Does it cost anything to enter?

Nope, you can enter as much as you want! I made $18 this year and my son made $10. (I deposited his in his savings account though.) Some categories have limits, but there are tons of options: crafts, photography, canned goods, plants, flowers, art, legos!!!! My plan this year is to help my son do projects throughout the year that will be entered that fall. Maybe I’ll blog about how it goes. 🙂
